March 2012 Fitness Success Story

Congratulations to our March 2012 Clients of the Month, Mike & Marilyn Williams from Azle, Texas! You’ve got to see this story…amazing. Mike was actually scheduled for gastric bypass surgery before they started with their personal trainer. (If you’d like to read the transcript of Mike & Marilyn’s interview, it’s below the video.)

Mike:
I’m Mike Williams from Azle, Texas.

Marilyn:
I’m Marilyn Williams from Azle, Texas.

Mike:
Overweight big time. Wouldn’t go to concerts, didn’t want to sit in the chairs. Didn’t go to football games. Anything with stadium-type seating, I didn’t want to go.

Marilyn:
Wouldn’t fly.

Mike:
Didn’t like flying because you have to ask for the extension and that kind of gets a little embarrassing, it really does. Just basically couldn’t bend over and pick things up and really going in the wrong direction.

Marilyn:
Or you’d have to crawl across the floor to pull yourself up because you couldn’t get up on your own. But my personal journey began taking care of mothers. I would have to lift their wheelchairs, lift them and lift walkers, and they were pretty weak. I had to do everything for them. So I started just to get strong so I could lift. I think that’s where we began our journey, seeing our mothers.

Mike:
Exactly. My mom and her mom both are in their 80s and they couldn’t hardly get around, and we did not want that. We do not want that when we’re hopefully in our 80s. We want to be able to take care of ourselves, and if we don’t start now, we would have been in the same situation that they’re in.

New Wave Fitness:
Seeing the future, and that’s not the future you want.

Mike & Marilyn:
Exactly.

Mike:
Always doing the fad diets. You did the NutriSystem…

Marilyn:
I did NutriSystem, L.A. Weight Loss, and then there was another one that has gone out of business that I don’t even remember, but it did no good.

New Wave Fitness:
What would you give as the reason why it didn’t work?

Mike:
Discipline—wasn’t held accountable. Accountability is everything. Again, that’s where y’all come in. Brandon comes in and there’s not a day he doesn’t come in and ask us, “Hey, how did you do? How did you do on your meal plan?”

Marilyn:
Or, “Show it to me in black & white.”

Mike:
Yeah, exactly!

Marilyn:
“Forget telling me; show me in black & white.”

New Wave Fitness:
What has changed as far as your eating habits now compared to what they were then?

Mike:
About 5,000-6,000 calories down to less than 2,000. It’s a big difference. I have more energy because I’m eating the right things. I’m getting the proteins instead of the fajitas and margaritas! I’m eating the right balance of food, and just feel a lot better—way more energy.

Marilyn:
He was actually scheduled for [gastric] bypass when we started.

Mike:
Yeah, I was scheduled for bypass surgery. I was at that point of trying the bypass surgery. Then we went and bought one of these machines back here, and they said that they would send a trainer out to show us how to use it and that happened to be Hut. He told me about yawl’s program and man, we jumped—we signed right up, right then. I canceled the bypass.

Marilyn:
And did much better.

Mike:
Yeah, exactly, doing it on my own now. I’ve cut back—the only medication I was on was blood-pressure medicine, and I’m still on it but they cut the dosage way back, like in half. Once I reach my final goal, I really don’t expect to be on any kind of maintenance-type medicine. I’ve lost a total of about 70 pounds so far. I haven’t hit my goal yet, but I’m about halfway there.
